Bryton in a t-shirt

“Hello! My name is Bryton, like ‘Bryton your day.’ Nice to meet you!”

This is the way Bryton Jay Flint would typically introduce himself to new people he would meet. He would back this up with his very personable, bright big smile.

Bryton Jay Flint, born March 31st 1998, to Dana and Jason Flint, was a one-of-a-kind person. People would automatically start smiling when they saw this tall guy walk in a room. Known for his immense personality, he was a gentle giant who wore his heart on his sleeve.

Bryton was raised in the heart of the west side of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Growing up the youngest of his siblings, he watched his two parents work hard for what they had, and give all they could for their children.

Bryton had a rather normal childhood. He loved riding bikes in his neighborhood and being a kid that knew how to have fun. He loved to play guitar, and loved music in general. His first concert as a young kid was to see Rob Zombie! He also scored a kiss on the cheek from Sheri Moon Zombie. He talked about that all the time to anyone who’d listen.

Going through his school years, he struggled in class and with not knowing what exactly he wanted to do. Towards the end of his high school career, he dropped out and ended up leaving home, becoming homeless on the streets. He got addicted to drugs and his life was tumbling out of control. He broke ties with family and friends, relying only on his own shadow. He was alone.

A Happier Time

Eventually getting help, climbing out of his own head, Bryton got off the streets, came back home and got his G.E.D. Knowing now what he wanted to do for a career, he was able to get a grant to the GRCC welding program to obtain a well-paying job. Since he learned how to weld from his father at a young age, he quickly excelled beyond his peers.

Ultimately, these skills allowed him to be more independent than he’d ever been in any part of his life. Homeownership was a dream of his and eventually, from a past of drugs and homelessness, from being alone and down to nothing in his name, he would go on to having his own place to call home. A beautiful house that he was so proud to have. All the years of instability, and then all the years of hard work, got him to this point of his life.

Towards the end of Bryton’s life, he found a higher power in Jesus Christ. Bryton declared his faith when he was baptized on June 8, 2025. He was surrounded by family and friends that day who truly, wanted nothing but the best for him, who truly loved him dearly to his core, and couldn’t imagine a life without him. It was a day of pure joy and happiness, surrounded by nothing but love and people who cared for him.

The Unshared Pain

Despite all the strength he showed the world, Bryton was still fighting a battle within himself that few could see. Exactly six months later, on December 8, 2025, the unimaginable happened. Bryton, in a moment of desperation, took his life. Known for helping complete strangers, buying pizza for the homeless, being a great friend to the friendless, a son, a brother, a grandson, a best friend, a Christian….that life was cut short. He never found out what else he would be able to achieve.

Bryton will be missed forever — but his light continues through love, awareness, and the lives he touched.
